In 1777 bouwde Johann Gottlieb Scholtze een nieuw orgel voor de Domkirche te Havelberg. Bij de bouw gebruikte hij verschillende registers uit het vorige orgel van de kerk. In 1796 is het verbouwd en uitgebreid door Ernst Marx. Friedrich. Het orgel is vervolgens in 1835 en 1842 gereviseerd door Gottlieb Heise. Lütkemüller voerde in 1860 een restauratie uit. Daarbij paste hij het orgel aan aan de heersende smaak.
Het instrument is in 1945 zwaar beschadigd door oorlogsgeweld. Na de restauratie van het kerkgebouw reconstrueerde de firma Schuke uit Potsdam het orgel in de jaren 1953-1960. Twaalf registers bevatten nog oud pijpwerk. In 2002 voltooide de Schuke een grondige restauratie.
