  Michell & Thynne  new organ
1959 Maurice Forsyth-Grant  restoration and enlargement

  • The Michell & Thynne firm built an organ for Gloucester Palace in South Kensington in the nineteenth century. The instrument was transferred to Henley-on-Thames in 1885, where it became the property of Mrs. Algernon Bourke. Around 1955, Maurice Forsyth-Grant bought the organ and used it as the basis for a much larger organ, which he built with all sorts of materials he had acquired over the years.
  • The organ was transferred in 1966 to a new residence of Maurice Forsyth-Grant, Hawthorne Lodge in Bracknell. It has been renovated again.
