- The main organ of S:t Jakobs Kyrka in Stockholm was originally built in 1746 by Olof Hedlund. He built a two-manual organ with thirty stops. Carl Hårleman designed an exuberant Baroque organ case, which was decorated with wood carvings by Petter Norberg. Olof Schwan carried out a restoration in 1793 and 1794, also extending the organ by some stops.
- The old work was demolished in 1816 except for the organ case. In 1840 Per Zacharias Strand built a new organ behind the facade with three manuals and pedal and 43 stops. The old prospect pipes were no longer connected. The consultant for the construction was Gustaf Adolf Mankell, organist of the church. The Setterquist firm expanded the organ to 62 stops in 1914. In 1930 the instrument was rebuilt and enlarged to 83 stops by Åkerman & Lund, under the advice of Waldemar Åhlén, the then organist of the church. A Fjärrverk was added to the organ.
- Very soon, the instrument showed many problems, partly due to the pneumatic action, so that the firm Marcussen was commissioned to completely rebuild the organ. This work was completed in 1976. The organ, which now had mechanical slider chests with electric register action, again has 83 stops. The old prospect pipes are connected and speaking again. The Fjärrverk from 1930 has also been preserved and is connected via an electrical connection.
