De Woolsey Hall is het auditorium van Yale University. Voor deze grote zaal bouwde de firma Hutchings-Votey Organ Company uit Boston in 1903 een groot orgel. Het had vier manualen en 76 registers. George S. Hutchings liet zich bij de bouw van het instrument inspireren door het grote Robert Hope-Jones-orgel van Worchester Cathedral. Het grote nieuwe orgel was opus 1469 van de firma. In 1915 werd het al uitgebreid door J.W. Steere & Son Organ Company uit Springfield. Het kreeg twee nieuwe werken, en het aantal registers werd nu 120 stuks. De twee nieuwe werken waren per stem los registreerbaar op de andere klavieren. Het orgel had opus 682 van Steere. Skinner Company uit Boston kreeg in 1928 de opdracht het orgel volledig up-to-date te maken. Er volgde een enorme verbouwing. De pas bij Skinner werkende G. Donald Harrison ontwierp het geheel samen met Ernest M. Skinner. Het orgel werd door de verbouwing nog groter. Het meeste bestaande materiaal werd opnieuw gebruikt. Skinner voegde een String Division toe, dat op ieder manuaal worden bespeeld kan worden. De kas van het orgel werd door Skinner ook gewijzigd. In 1931 was de verbouwing gereed. Het kreeg opusnummer 722 van Skinner. Een bijzonder register is de Gravissima 64' op het pedaal, samengesteld uit een Open Wood 32' en een Double Quint 21 1/3'. In 2007 voerde Thompson-Allen een restauratie uit.
