Municipal: Dresden

Description nr.: 2078526.

Built by: Jehmlich Orgelbau (1901)
Destroyed (1945)

The Stadtkrankenhaus in Dresden-Johannstadt was opened on December 2, 1901. The hospital included a chapel, called the Anstaltskirche. The church had been designed by Edmund Bräter . An organ was placed by the Gebrüder Jehmlich. The instrument had fourteen registers. The complex has been expanded over the years. In 1934 the name was changed to Rudolf-Hess-Krankenhaus. This name was removed again in 1941 after Hess's flight to England. Later that year the name became Gerhard-Wagner-Krankenhaus. The hospital was partially destroyed during the bombing of Dresden on February 13, 1945. The chapel was also destroyed, and Jehmlich's organ was lost.
