  • In 1862-1863 a wooden church was built in Napier, dedicated to Saint John the Evangelist. This church became the cathedral church of the diocese of Napier. William Hill & Sons built a pipe organ for the church in 1874. The organ was transferred to a new stone church in 1888. The organ had twelve registers on two manuals and pedal.
  • A larger organ was built in for of the cathedral in 1907. The Hill Organ was transferred to the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Dannevirke. It was used here until 1967. A larger organ was built that year, using much of Hill's pipework.
