- In 1829, J.C. Bishop built an organ for Saint Giles' Church in Reading. It was placed on the gallery on the west side of the nave. In 1867 the firm of Walker & Sons carried out a reconstruction, after which it was moved to the choir of the church in 1872. Revisions by Walker with modifications of the disposition were carried out in 1888, 1920, and in 1961. In this year the action of the manuals was replaced with electropneumatics.
- In 1996-1998 the organ was restored by Harrison & Harrison. It was placed back on the gallery on the west side. The character of the organ has been restored to the nineteenth century Victorian style, the action has been mechanically constructed again and a new straight pedal keyboard has been installed. The organ was completed in February 1998. Roderick Gradidge designed the new gallery. The official dedication took place on March 18, 1998 with a service, inclusing the Messe Solennelle by Louis Vierne.
