1970 Wicks Organ Company  reconstruction

  • In 1912, Estey built an organ for Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Charlotte. The organ, opus 1068 of the firm, was transferred to a new location after the construction of the present church on Park Road. In 1970 it was converted and expanded by Wicks Organ Company. This was made possible thanks to a gift from Carolyn Sherrill.
  • The organ was replaced in the years 2008-2011 by a larger organ, built by Bunn-Minnick. Pipework from Estey and Wicks has been used again.

  • In 2008, Bunn=Minnick Company of Columbus, Ohio, was selected to rebuild it. That project was completed in early 2011, and the organ was heard for the first time in worship on Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011. A dedicatory recital was played by Charlotte native Jonathan Ryan on Friday, May 6, 2011. The project was funded largely from gifts to the Capital Campaign and the Holy Comforter Foundation.
