  • The building of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Evanston, Illinois, was erected in the years 1912-1913. The church was designed by Solon Spencer Beman in a Neo-Classical style. The organ from the previous church building, an instrument of Lyon & Healy from 1902, was not sold, but transferred to the room for Sunday School, where it was in use for over 90 years. A new organ was constructed for the main room by Ernest M. Skinner, opus 208 of his company, in 1913-1914.
  • The original specification has been altered at some date, by adding three stops to the Great: Octave 4', Twelfth 2 2/3' and Fifteenth 2'. In 2000 the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Evanston merged with the Second Church of Christ, Scientist. The building of the First Church became redundant, and it was sold to the Music Institute of Chicago. After a major rebuilt the institute opened in 2003. The organ was restored in the years 2005-2007 by J.L. Weiler. Thomas Murray played the inaugurational concert on September 28, 2007.
