  • The roman catholic parish church of Saint Augustine in Austin, Nevada, was consecrated in 1866. A pipe organ was installed in the church in 1884 by Henry Kilgen, and the instrument could be dedicated in August of this year. The city of Austin had grown thanks to the nearby silver mines, but when the mines were closed, the town declined to less than 500 inhabitants. The church closed in 1990. The building was not used anymore, but has been preserved, including the organ, that never has been modified.
  • In 2000, the church was bought by a local who converted it to an art center with the name Saint Augustine's Cultural Center. The organ was restored in 2012-2014 by Charles M. Ruggles, following the Organ Historical Society’s Guidelines for Conservation. Every detail was taken apart and restored using original materials. The original hand-pump installation was replaced over time, and has not been reconstructed. A new Laukhuff blower is installed instead. The organ case was completed to protect the interior entirely. The organ was installed again in the church in October 2013, but the official dedication of the instrument was postponed to September 27, 2014, the same day that the Cultural Center was officially opened.
