  • The Church of Saint John the Evangelist on Bowdoin Street in Boston, Massachusetts, is a church building from 1831. Built for the congegational Church of the Advent, the building was taken over in 1883 as a mission church of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist. An new organ was installed in 1890 by George S. Hutchings with 32 stops. It replaced an instrument by Hook & Hastings from 1876, that was sold to the Unitarian Church in Groton, Massachusetts. Earlier organs in the church were instruments by Appleton and William B.D. Simmons.
  • The Hutchings organ was electrified and relocated inside the church by Hook & Hastings in 1930. The original location was on the north side of the choir, and since 1930 the instrument is on the gallery in the tower. A new console was installed. The Twelfth of Great was replaced by a Harmonic Flute 4'. The pedal compass was enlarged from 27 (C-d') to 32 (C-g') keys. Some years later a new Dulciana 16' was installed on the pedal on a separate chest.
  • In 1965, the organ was renovated. At this occasion some modifications to the stop list were carried out: the Flute Harmonique 4' of Great was modified to a Quint 2 2/3', the Gamba 8' to a Quint 5 1/3'. On Swell two 8'-ranks were shifted to become 4', namely the Violin Diapason and the Oboe. The Violine 4' was modified to a Nasard 2 2/3'.
  • In 1985 the church became a parish church. In 2014, the congregation merged with Saint Paul's Cathedral, and after a renovation of the cathedral, Saint John's was closed and sold at the end of 2017, beginning 2018.
