Hook & Hastings

Vestigingsplaats
1871Boston, Massachusetts

  • Elias Hook (1806-1881) and his brother George G. Hook (1807-1880) came from Salem, located near Boston in Massachusetts. Their father was a furniture maker. In 1821 Elias joined William Goodrich in Boston as an apprentice organ maker. His brother became an apprentice at the same company a few years later. They started their own company together as early as 1827. In a short time their firm became the leading organ maker in New England. Initially the architectural style was very English, but after about 1850 people started to orient themselves more towards German organ makers, such as Ladegast and Walcker.
  • From 1871 the firm operated under the name E. & G.G. Hook & Hastings, after Francis H. Hastings (1836-1916) became a partner. Francis Hastings was born in Weston, Massachusetts. He worked at the company from 1855. After the death of George G. Hook on September 15, 1880, the company name was shortened to Hook & Hastings. This name remained in use until the company's dissolution in 1936. Hastings became the leader of the company after the death of Elias Hook on June 15, 1881. Francis Hastings died on February 23, 1916 in Kendal Green, Massachusetts.
