Built by: E. & G.G. Hook (1870) - opus 553

Under the direction of William Horatio Clarke, the organist of the church at the time, a new organ was built for the First Unitarian Church in Woburn, Massachusetts in 1870 by the company E. & G.G. Hook from Boston. The previous organ, built by W.B.D. Simmons with two manuals, was taken in by Hook, and installed in 1871 in the Congregational Church of Newmarket, New Hampshire. They constructed a new three-manual organ with 38 stops. The Great Organ is equipped with a pneumatic lever (Barker machine type). Originally the wind was supplied by two water motors. The Solo division is played from the lowest manual, and is not enclosed. The organ has been preserved in its original condition. Only the water motors were replaced by an electric blower, although one water motor is renovated and still present.
