  • In 1876, the company Hook & Hastings built a new organ for the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, that was erected in the Great Hall of the exhibition. After the closure of the exhibition in November 1876, the organ was sold to the parish of Saint Joseph's Cathedral in Buffalo, New York. The original instrument had four manuals and pedal with 47 stops, including six extensions on the pedal. It was dedicated in the cathedral on February 13, 1877.
  • The original action, mechanical with partial Barker levers, was replaced by electro-pneumatic action in 1925 by the Teller-Kent Company. The original console was replaced by a new three-manual console. The solo division no longer had its own manual. The Tuba Mirabilis was transferred to Great, and the Stenterphone was removed. Swell and Choir were expanded with a Celeste. As a result, the organ has been preserved for a great part in its original state. A restoration was carried out by Schlicker in 1975-1976.
  • A new major restoration was carried out in 1999-2001 by the Andover Organ Company. The Solo Division was reconstructed, a new four-manual console has been installed, and some new ranks were added to the organ. The Choir division was expanded with new ranks and two ranks from Estey opus 3079 (Lieblich Gedeckt and Trumpet) and an Octave 4' from Hook opus 501. On Swell the Cornet 3 ranks was split into three stops, and an Octave 4' and Tierce were added, coming from the Hook & Hastings opus 869. The Stentorphone was restored from the original pipes, and a Cornet was added to Solo, with the 8'-rank from Hook opus 501. A new Celestial Organ was added to the instrument, with mostly existing pipework (Estey, Hutchings, Hook). On July 11, 2001, the organ was inaugurated with a concert by Thomas Murray.
