  • The Second Congregational Church in Amherst was built in 1839. The first and only pipe organ to have been installed in the building is the current instrument, built by Emmons Howard in 1897-1898. It was dedicated early 1898.
  • In 1970 the First and the Second Congregational Churches merged, and the building of the Second Church became redundant. It was sold including the organ in 1976 to the Jewish Community. The organ is not used by them during their services, but good care is given to the historical instrument.
