The roman catholic cathedral in Springfield, Massachusetts, was dedicated in 1861. A pipe organ was built for this church by the brothers Elias and George Hook, with 33 stops, and this instrument could be dedicated in 1862. It was located on the gallery on the west side of the nave, with a large case in gothic style. The current organ was built by Casavant in 1929, where the case of Hook was re-used. Casavant built two instruments, a gallery organ and a smaller chancel organ, that are connected together.
