  • The Chicago Auditorium opened in 1889. It was a large concert hall, designed by Adler and Sullivan Architects. The Hilborne L. Roosevelt company built a large organ for the main hall. The instrument had a four-manual console and consisted of seven divisions. The console was set up freestanding on the stage of the hall. Both Echo Organ and Stage Organ were played from the fourth manual (Solo). Consultant was Clarence Eddy. The organ was the company's opus 400 and was inaugurated with a concert by Clarence Eddy on October 29, 1890. The concert also featured the participation of Christine Nielson, alto, and a symphony orchestra conducted by Adolph Rosenbecker. Théodore Dubois composed a Fantasie Triomphale for organ and orchestra for the inauguration.
  • The theater was closed to the public in 1941 and sold to the city of Chicago. In 1946, the building was taken over by Roosevelt University. The theater was not reopened until October 31, 1967. The organ was sold to William H. Barnes, who had it stored in the basement of the First Baptist Church in Evanston. It was donated by him to Indiana University. It was renovated by Aeolian-Skinner, equipped with a new console and was installed in 1946 in the 1941-built Auditorium of this university in Bloomington, Indiana.
