Built by: André Eustache (1643)
The main organ of the cathedral in Nîmes was built in 1643 by the brothers Gaspard and André Eustache. It was restored in 1752 by Jean-Esprit Isnard and extended with a Clairon 4' on the pedal. It was preserved in this condition until 1845, when it was overhauled and rebuilt by the Daublaine-Callinet firm. The renovation by Michel Merklin in 1896 was more drastic. He enlarged the organ by twenty stops, modified the structure of the organ and emptied the positive case. Alfred Kern & Fils rebuilt the organ in the years 1974-1982, reconstructing the original instrument, supplemented with nineteenth-century material. Since the organ has 49 stops.
