- The Mariahilfkirche in Munich-Au was built in the 1831-1839 neo-Gothic style, after a design by Daniel Ohlmüller. The building was the first church in gothic revival style in the city. At the end of the nineteenth century, a large new organ was built, designed by Joseph Rheinberger. Unfortunately this organ was lost as a result of bombing raids in 1944.
- After the war the church was rebuilt on the outside in the old style, but on the inside in a modern style. Gerhard Schmid delivered a new main organ with 70 stops in 1975.
- The organ has been restored from April until October 2018.
