Municipal: Balen
Region:Vlaanderen
Address: Markt 12, 2490, Balen
Description nr.: 2022105.
Built by: Christiaan Penceler (1723)
In the village of Balen stands the Gothic Sint Andrieskerk, which contains an organ from around 1723. It was built after the restoration of the church after a fire in 1717. The maker of the organ is almost certainly Christiaan Penceler. For a long time it was not known who the builder was. Over time, much of the organ's material had been lost. Only the organ case and most of the pipe work still date from the construction period. Gabriël Loncke drew up a restoration plan based on other organs of Penceler and his pupil Jacobus Verbuecken. The work was started by the company Jos Stevens, but was ultimately carried out and completed by Ghislain Potvlieghe-De Mayer. In October 1988 the organ was put back into use with concerts by Luk Bastiaens and Stanislas Deriemaeker.
