  • José Verdalongo Romero built a large Baroque-style organ in 1801 for the current Basilica Pontificia de San Miguel in Madrid. The old interior was replaced in the years 1906-1912 by a modern romantic organ. The organ case was made wider to accommodate the new organ. The organ was fitted with pneumatic action and cone chests. In 1959-1960 the organ was rebuilt by Maurice and Robert Gouaut, but it remained pneumatic. It now had twenty stops on two manuals and pedal.
  • Gerhard Grenzing built a new organ in the old cases in the years 1971-1975, in which connection was sought with the Baroque work from 1801. Consultant was Montserrat Torrent. The new organ has three manuals and pedal and 38 stops.
  • In 2005 it was cleaned and overhauled by Grenzing. A modern combination action has been installed with 1000 setzer combinations. On November 22, 2005, the organ was rededicated with a concert by José Enrique Ayarra, organist of the Seville Cathedral.
