1990 Harrison & Harrison  restoration

  • Henry Willis built an organ for Glasgow Cathedral in 1878/1879. The instrument was the first major organ in the cathedral since the Reformation. It was commissioned on April 13, 1879. Dr. A.L. Pearce played it on this occasion.
  • It was partially remodeled in 1931 by Henry Willis III. The action was made completely electric and therefore a new console had to be installed. In 1948 the Choir Organ was expanded with a few stops. The organ was completely rebuilt in 1970-1971 by the firm of Walker & Sons. On Easter Sunday, April 11, 1971, Francis Jackson played the inaugurational concert. Jackson was the consultant together with John Turner during the rebuilt of the instrument. However, a new renovation turned out to be necessary again relatively quickly. Harrison & Harrison carried it out in 1990 under the advice of John Turner and Philip Ledger.
