The Johanniskirche in Rostock was built in 1949-1950 to a design by the architect Otto Bartning. The stones used in the construction were taken from the Sankt Jakobikirche, which was destroyed in 1942. The church was put into use on 17 September 1950. In 1959, the Alexander Schuke company built an organ for the church. Hans-Joachim Wagner was consultant for the construction.
