- Johannes Klais built a new large organ for the Sankt Kilians-Dom in Würzburg in 1937. The instrument was set up on three locations in the church. Hauptwerk, Positiv and Unterwerk were located in the south transept, Oberwerk and Schwellwerk in the north transept, while the Bombardenwerk was hung on the west wall of the nave. Parts of the Pedal were placed at all three locations. All works could be played from a central console. The two transept organs were placed in historic organ cases which previously housed two separate organs. The console had four keyboards. From the first manual, both the Positiv and the Unterwerk could be played. The Bombardenwerk could optionally be linked to any manual.
- On March 16, 1945, the organ was lost in a heavy bombing raid on the city.
