De firma Walker & Sons bouwde in 1965 een nieuw instrument voor de na de oorlog herbouwde kerk. Van het oude orgel, een werkstuk van Aristide Cavaillé-Coll uit 1866, was niets overgebleven. De nieuwe kerk werd ontworpen door Giles Scott. Ralph Downes was adviseur bij de bouw van het nieuwe orgel, dat met kerst 1965 voor het eerst kon worden bespeeld. De officiële ingebruikneming vond plaats op 13 april 1966. Hierbij werd het orgel bespeeld door Gillian Weir en Ralph Downes, in samenwerking met het koor van de Carmelite Priory onder leiding van John McCarthy.
