  • In Saint Matthew's Church in Rokeby, Tasmania there is an organ by John Gray from 1824. It was probably the first organ in Australia that could be played by hand. Until then, only cylinder organs were supplied. The organ was originally built for Saint David's Church in Hobart, and was first used at a service on May 15, 1825. The consultant on its construction was George Cooper, organist in London.
  • Saint Matthew's Church was built in the years 1840-1843 according to designs by James Blackburn. After a new organ was installed in Saint David's in 1857, the old instrument was transferred to Rokeby by James J. Pollard.
  • The organ was restored in 1968 by Arthur Jones. The organ is still completely original, only the Mixture is missing.
