  • Johannes Mellinger, mayor of Hildesheim, donated a large sum in 1656 for the construction of a new organ for the Andreaskirche in Hildesheim. Construction began in June 1656 and was carried out by Heinrich Bader. The construction was seriously delayed by Mellinger's death on 4 October 1656. The organ was completed by Heinrich Herbst in 1668. The disposition from 1738 is known, thanks to Johann Hermann Biermann, who recorded it in his 'Organographia Hildesiensis'.
  • The organ did not remain unchanged, however. In the nineteenth century, several major renovations were carried out. In 1873, H. Schaper & Sohn emptied the Rückpositiv and placed it in the organ case as an internal Positiv. Several registers were replaced and the double choirs of the Mixtures were removed. In 1908, the Positiv was placed in a swell box. The organ was already equipped with an electric wind motor in 1913. In 1915, the organ had 48 stops, of which 23 were still by Bader. In 1940, Ernst Palandt reconstructed the Rückpositiv.
  • Plans for a thorough restoration of the rest of the instrument were never carried out as a result of the bombing of Hildesheim on March 22, 1945. The interior of the church burned down completely, and nothing remained of the organ.
