1980 Reinisch-Pirchner Orgelbau  new organ in old case

  • The organ cases in the cathedral of Brixen (Bressanone) were made by Ferdinand Schwabl, a carpenter in Brixen, in the years 1756-1758 for the organ built in the same years by Augustin Simnacher and Alexander Holzhey. The design is by Simnacher. The old work has been extensively renovated over time. Finally, in 1897/1898 the company Gebr. Mayer installed a new organ with 40 stops in the historic organ cases.
  • The current interior was built in 1980 by the Reinisch-Pirchner company, following Simnacher's original design. Advisors during the construction were Egon Kraus, Otto Rubatscher and Josef Knapp. The instrument was dedicated on October 4, 1980 with a concert by Franz Lehrndorfer.
