- In 1877 Aristide Cavaillé-Coll built a large organ for the Town Hall in Manchester. The organ had 43 stops on three manuals and pedal. Cavaillé-Call himself expanded the pedal with two ranks (Soubasse 32' and Bourdan 16') and enlarged the organ with a new Solo Department. The organ was rebuilt in 1912 by T.C. Lewis modified, expanded again and equipped with an Echo Organ. The action was modified into pneumatics. In 1970 the company George Jardine & Sons revised the work. Jardine installed a new moveable console with electro-pneumatic action. The organ at this time had five manuals and 64 stops.
- In 2020 a collobration of Flentrop Orgelbouw and the company Nicholson started with a reconstruction of the situation of 1893, including mechanical action and a new console in style of the work of Cavaillé-Coll. The organ case will also be reconstructed to the original proportions. Consultant is William McVicker.
