- Het orgel van Birmingham Cathedral dateert in de eerste aanleg uit 1715, het jaar waarin het kerkgebouw in gebruik werd genomen. Het werd gebouwd door Thomas Schwarbrick en stond oorspronkelijk opgesteld op een galerij aan de westzijde van de kerk en het bestond uit een hoofdwerk en een rugpositief. Het rugpositief is niet meer aanwezig, het is in de negentiende eeuw verwijderd. De orgelkas staat tegenwoordig aan de noordoostzijde van het orgel opgesteld. Aan de westzijde van de kerk staat sinds 1970 een historisch orgelfront, afkomstig uit de kerk van Saint Crysostom in Hockley (Warwickshire), gebouwd rond 1730. Deze kas werd in 1897 in Hockley geplaatst door Eustace Ingram, de herkomst is niet bekend.
- Het orgel van Thomas Schwarbrick is in de loop van de tijd verbouwd en uitgebreid, onder andere door Schwarbrick zelf. Hierna zijn werkzaamheden uitgevoerd in 1777 door John Snetzler en in 1805 door George Pike England. In 1892 is het instrument herbouwd door de firma Nicholson, die het ook nog uitbreidde in 1906 en 1929. De huidige opbouw is ontstaan na een restauratie door Nicholson in de jaren 1992/1993.
