- Het Clerinx-orgel in de Virga-Jessekerk te Hasselt is van onbekend herkomst. Het werd in 1901 gekocht door de Koninklijke Maatschappij van Dierkunde bij een handelaar in tweedehands muziekinstrumenten in Antwerpen. Hierna werd het geplaatst in de Koningin Elisabethzaal van de dierentuin in Antwerpen door Emile Kerkhoff. Deze zaal werd gebouwd in 1897. Bij de aanschaf van het orgel was Alphonse Mailly als adviseur betrokken.
- In de zaal werden na afloop van de Tweede Wereldoorlog grote feesten georganiseerd. Omdat hierna herstelwerkzaamheden nodig waren werd het orgel gedemonteerd en opgeslagen. Het is in 1949 te koop aangeboden.
- In 1952 is het orgel overgeplaatst naar de basiliek in Hasselt door Aloïs Thunus uit Malmédy. In 2003 restaureerde Filip Nijs het orgel onder advies van Michel Lemmens. Het kerkgebouw werd in 1998 verheven tot basiliek.
