The Basilika Sankt Michael, a former Stiftskirche at Mondsee contains a historic organ case from 1673. The old organ interior, attributed to Christoph Egedacher, was replaced at the end of the nineteenth century by a romantic instrument by Fritz Mertel. In 1993, Gaston Kern built a reconstruction of the original Egedachter organ in the old case. A number of stops still consist for more than half of Egedacher's pipework.
