  • Girard College was founded out of Stephen Girard's estate in 1843, as a school for boys who grew up without a father. The school is now aimed at a wider target group, both for boys and girls. A new chapel was built in 1931, designed by Philadelphia architects Thomas and Martin. Ernest M. Skinner built an organ for this chapel, which was completed in 1933. The organ was inaugurated on May 8, 1933, with a concert by Harry Banks, the school's regular organist.
  • The organ was rebuilt and modified in 1972, but the changes were undone in 1986. Only the original Harmonics Mixture 4 ranks have been lost: the ranks were removed and stored in Michigan in 1972, but was destroyed by fire there. The new stop was manufactured by the Organ Supply Industries to a design by Bruce Schultz. The Austin company renewed the interior of the console in 1986.
