- In the years 1733 to 1737, Simón Fontanes built two new organs on the choir of Braga Cathedral. The cases were manufactured by Marceliano de Araújo. The organ on the Gospel side was opened in December 1737. Two years later, the opposite instrument on the Epistle side was also completed.
- The instrument has never been modified but it fell into disrepair. It was barely usable since 1972. The organ was subsequently restored by António Simões in the years 1985 to 1990. After this, the organ was put into use with a concert by the Eindhoven organist Dorthy de Rooij.
