The company Granville Wood & Son signed a contract on May 21, 1887 for the delivery of a type 11 organ to the new church of Saint Anne in Detroit. It was commissioned at the end of 1887 or beginning of 1888. In 1936, Wood, now associated with Gottfried & Co., established in Erie, made a plan for expanding the organ and changing the action. These recommendations were partly adopted, but the work was commissioned to the Casavant company from Quebec, Canada, who rebuilt the organ in 1940. Due to water damage, the original wind chests were completely relieved, so that Casavant made new electro-pneumatic chests with a free-standing console. The manual compass was changed to 61 tones, and the pedal compass to 32. Casavant converted the Bourdon 16' from Great to a Gedeckt 8' and replaced all the reeds with new ones. Swell was extended with a Viola da Gamba, Voix Celeste and a Vox Humana, and through a transmission the Open Diapason 16' of the pedal could also be used as 8'.
