After the rebuilding of the Marktkirche in Hanover, the company's Von Beckerath and Hammer built a large new organ in 1954/1955. The prospect was designed by Dieter Oesterlen, architect of the rebuilding. It is completely asymmetrical. Construction consultants were Rudolf Utermöhlen and Erich Thienhaus.
The construction of the action was very complicated, which led to all kinds of malfunctions. In 1970 Richard Rensch started with a conversion, advised by Manfred Brandstetter. The Oberwerk was placed in a swell box, the Brustwerk fitted with doors and the Hauptwerk expanded with a Bombardewerk. The Pedal was also arranged differently and the stop list was modified. The works were completed in 1972.
In 2004, it was decided to have a new organ built in the 1955 cases. These cases are listed buildings and may not be removed. The assignment went to the firm Goll, who built a four-manual organ with 64 stops. About half of the pipework is taken from the old organ. It was put back into service on May 31, 2009.
