1979 Felsberg Orgelbau45 new organ in old case

  • Johann Andreas Silbermann delivered a beautiful organ for the St. Martin in Colmar in 1755. In 1828 Callinet expanded the organ. The historic interior was lost in 1911, when a large electro-pneumatic organ was placed in the old cases by Rinckenbach, using also twelve stops of Silbermann in his work. The new instrument had 82 stops and was the largest organ in Alsace at the time. The original prospect pipes were preserved by Rinckenbach, but they were removed in 1917 as war metal.
  • The Rinckenbach norgan was replaced in 1979 by the current instrument, that was constructed by the Swiss company Felsberg. Although twelve stops of the Silbermann organ had been preserved, these were not used for the construction of the Felsberg organ. It is set up in the Scandinavian neo-baroque style, which is absolutely incompatible with Silbermann's work. The twelve Silbermann stops have been used for the reconstruction of the Silbermann organ in the Église des Dominicains in Colmar.
