  • In the years 1743-1745 Jean-Esprit Isnard built a new organ in the cathedral of Aix. It was modified in 1799 and 1833, but in 1854 Ducroquet built an entirely new instrument in the old case. The pipework of Grand-Orgue and Positif was placed on one windchest. Cavaillé-Coll carried out a revision in 1880. The most important action was revoicing of the organ. The disposition was expanded with two celeste stops, and he replaced the second Trumpet of the Grand-Orgue with a Basson 8'. Merklin restored the organ in 1915. The pedal compass was expanded from 25 to 30 keys, and the Vox Humana of the Récit was replaced by an Octavin 2'. In 1975 Dunand restored the organ. They expanded the Récit from 42 to 54 keys, replaced the second Trumpet, and replaced the Unda Maris on the Positif with a Sesquialter. The company Mainpointe restored the organ case and reconstructed the original colors.
  • The organ was restored in 2001 by Manufacture Languedocienne. All pipework and mechanisms were cleaned, including the pipes of the identical (but functionless) prospect located on the other side of the nave. The console was also overhauled. A Picolo 1' was added to the Positif, while at the Grand Orgue the Trompette 8' and Flûte 4' by Dunand (1975) were replaced with a Grosse Trompette 8' and a Gambe 8' respectively. A Voix Humaine 8' was added to the Récit Expressif. The work was completed in 2003, after which the instrument was put back into use with a concert by titular Chantal de Zeeuw.
