In 1636/1637 Friedrich Stellwagen built a new organ for the Jakobikirche in Lübeck. He reused part of the pipework of the previous Gothic organ from around 1500, mainly for the Hauptwerk. Karl Kemper renovated the organ in 1946. In 1977/1978 the company Gebrüder Hillebrand reconstructed the organ, and added an independent pedal. The organ was tuned to a Werckmeister III temperament. In 2006 this was changed to a modificated meantone.
