The organ in the cathedral of Le Havre was built in 1637-1638 by Guillaume Lesselier from Rouen. The beautifully carved case was a gift, made by Simon Lévesque in 1637. The organ was restored and modified several times over the centuries, such as in 1779 by Jean Baptise Nicolas Lefebure, in 1845 by Daublaine & Callinet and in 1861 by Merklin & Schutze. In 1944 it was almost completely destroyed by bombing. Large parts of the original organ case were saved and were used in 1980 to reconstruct the old front on the basis of photographs by Francelli. Haerpfer built a new organ with three manuals and 43 registers in the new case. The organ was expanded in 1991 with an Echo keyboard.
