The Zionskerk (Gereformeerd) in Uithuizen was built in 1866 and expanded in 1905. No organ had yet been installed, but it was decided to look for a second-hand mechanical instrument. Ultimately, a Walcker organ was purchased, built in 1878, which was located in Bremen. The Walcker company took care of the transfer. The purchase was made partly thanks to the help of Hindrik Bos, timber merchant from Rotterdam.
The organ already had a history: in 1879 it was placed as a temporary organ in the Domkirche in Frankfurt am Main, where the large Walcker organ from 1857 had been destroyed by a fire. After the completion of the new main organ of this church, it was relocated to the Sankt Stefanikirche in Bremen in 1891. A converted historical instrument was placed in this church in 1906 by Walcker. Thus the instrument with opus number 351 eventually came to Uithuizen. The original design, dated April 23, 1878, has been preserved, which shows that the organ is still completely in its original condition. The instrument was put into use in Uithuizen on May 31, 1907.
An electric windblower was installed in 1931. After several minor repairs (including by Steendam in 1988), a restoration became necessary. This was performed by Mense Ruiter under the direction of Anco Ezinga and Victor Timmer. The voicing could be re-done, using examples of other smaller Walcker organs from the same period, that still existed in Germany. The seven pinnacles of the organ case, removed in 1958, were recreated. The original wind pressure could also be restored on the basis of comparisons with other Walcker organs of a similar size. On May 17, 1997 the instrument was put back into use with a recital by Anco Ezinga.
