Amerikaanse orgelbouwer uit de negentiende eeuw. Geboren op 10 maart 1800 in New York, zoon van de bekende New Yorkse organist Peter Erben (1771-1861). In 1816 ging hij werken bij Thomas Hall, waar hij het orgelmakersvak leerde. In 1824 werd hij compagnon van Hall, en kreeg de firma de naam Hall & Erben. Per 2 maart 1827 werd het compagnonschap opgeheven en was Erben zelfstandig orgelmaker. Thomas Hall bleef echter medewerker van het bedrijf tot 1843. Erben behoorde tot de meest degelijke orgelbouwers van Amerika, en kreeg veel opdrachten, vanuit de hele Verenigde Staten, maar ook daarbuiten. In de jaren 1874 tot 1879 werd de firma Henry Erben & Co. genoemd, en was William M. Wilson compagnon. Vanaf 1880 werkte zijn zoon Charles Erben in het bedrijf als compagnon. Na zijn dood op 7 mei 1884 werd de firma echter voortgezet door Lewis C. Harrison (1838-1918).
Henry Erben was one of the most importan American organ builders from the nineteenth century. Born on March 10, 1800 in New York, son of the well-known New York organist Peter Erben (1771-1861). In 1816 he went to work with Thomas Hall, where he learned the organ making trade. In 1824 he became a partner of Hall, and the firm was renamed Hall & Erben. As of March 2, 1827, the partnership was dissolved and Erben was an independent organ maker. Thomas Hall, however, remained an employee of the company until 1843. Erben was one of the most solid organ builders in America, and received many orders from all over the United States, but also beyond. In the years 1874 to 1879 the firm was named Henry Erben & Co., with William M. Wilson as his associate. From 1880 his son Charles Erben worked in the company as a partner. After the death of Henry Erben on May 7, 1884, however, the firm was continued by Lewis C. Harrison (1838-1918).
