Johannes Künkel was born on May 6, 1930 in Klingenbach in Rheinland-Pfalz in Germany. He was a pupil of Weigle, among others. In 1955 he moved to Sweden, where he started working at Mårtenssons Orgelbyggeri. In 1961 he started an organ building company in Lund (Vallkärratorn 8). The company moved to Färjestaden in 1987. He built his last organ in 1992. Johannes Künkel died in 2016 in Färjestaden.
