Friedrich Gerhadt was born in Kölleda in 1828. He was a pupil of Hesse in Dachwig from 1841, and established himself in 1853 as an independent organ builder in his birthplace. From 1863 he was based in Merseburg. In 1885 he sold his company, but he continued to work as a free organ builder after that. It died in 1922 in Merseburg.
