Rowan West was born in Sydney in 1953. He played the organ himself and trained as an organ builder in his native country. In 1975 he emigrated to Germany, where he started working at Klais. In 1987 he founded his own company in Ahrweiler. Rowan West built classical organs, inspired by the work of Schnitger and contemporaries. In 2021, the workshop was destroyed by a flood. A new business space was found in Nassau an der Lahn. Due to illness he had to leave work more and more. He died on May 17, 2023.
