William Allen Johnson was born in 1816 in Nassau, New York. In 1819-1820 his family moved to Hawley, Massachusetts. In 1843 he helped build an organ at Hook, after which he specialized in organ building. He worked from Westfield, Massachusetts. After some setbacks, he founded the Johnson Organ Company in 1871. William A. Johnson died on January 20, 1901. His son and successor William H. Johnson died on April 20, 1922. This ended the company.
