Dirk van Rossum had been organist of the Reformed Church in Bodegraven since 1840. In this place he was born on November 24, 1807. His father Johannes was also organist of this church. Van Rossum was active as an organ builder to a limited extent. In his hometown he maintained and repaired the Hess organ. The only new organ known by him was built in 1864 for the Reformed Church in Abcoude.
