August(in) Ferdinand Bittner was born in Hilpoltstein on November 17, 1787. He was the youngest son of organ builder Johann Adam Bittner (1755-1824). He worked for his father in the business, and continued in 1824. In 1829 he moved the company to Nürnberg. His son August Ferdinand Jr. became a partner in 1844. He died in Nürnberg on October 3, 1850, after which the company was continued by his son.
