In January 1872, Hermann August Eule (1846-1929) started an organ workshop in Bautzen. He learned the trade from Leopold Kohl, who was an organ builder in the same city from 1814 to 1870. Eule died in 1929 at the age of 83. He had built 173 new organs. His daughter Johanna continued the company, Hermann's only son, Georg, had died in 1918. Influenced by the Orgelreform, she soon started building mechanical organs with slider chests. The company specialized in the restoration of historic organs. Hans Eule (1923-1971) took over management of the company in 1957. Many organs were built mainly in the then GDR, but also in the Soviet Union, Sweden and the Federal Republic of Germany. Under the leadership of Hans, 134 organs were completed. Hans Eule died in 1971, but the company continued to exist, led by his widow, Ingeborg Eule (1925). Since 1990, the company has been led by Armin Zuckerriedel (1942).
