  • Saint Benedict's Church is the Roman Catholic parish church of Chippendale, a neighbourhood near the centre of Sydney. The church was built in the years 1845-1856 on Broadway. In 1892 a pipe organ was placed in the church, built in 1882 by Frederick Haydon Baker. It's almost certain that Baker used large parts of older organs to create his own work. The old Bishop-organ of Saint Benedict's Church was sold to Saint Patrick's Church in Parramatta. The new organ was inaugurated on October 7, 1892, with a concert by Auguste Wiegand. The instrument was located on the gallery above the entrance of the church.
  • The church had to be partly reconstructed because of widining works on Broadway about 1940. The organ was dismantled and rebuild on the southside of the nave. Om 1978 Pitchford & Garside restored the organ. In 2005-2006 Peter Jewkes relocated it on the west gallery, where it could be played in February 2006. In 2010 a new Clarion 4' was placed on Swell, thanks to a donation by the City of Sydney.
